The Department of Animal Welfare of the City of La Laguna organizes this weekend the third edition of the Adoption Fair of the municipality, an initiative that is celebrated in the framework of the commemoration of the International Day of Animal Rights and that will have three days of activities to raise awareness about the possession responsable. In addition to actions for the educational community and families, the program incorporates various virtual proposals and recovers the face-to-face fair this Saturday (December 11), in the Plaza de La Concepción, where animal protectors from all over the Island will be able to make their work visible and A space for collaboration and food donations will be created.

The Councilor for the Environment, Animal Welfare and the Fight against Climate Change, José Luis Hernández, explains that, “last week, we saw the most terrible image of how far cruelty to animals can go. The collaboration and involvement of the associations has once again been fundamental and, in addition to continuing to jointly demand firm action against these events by the security forces and bodies, from the Animal Welfare Area, we want to contribute to this invaluable work of the groups with this fair and with a municipal awareness campaign on animal rights, always necessary and even more so at this time ”.

After the virtual format of last year’s edition of the Adoption Fair, this 2021 “we have opted for a model that combines physical and online spaces to guarantee capacity and compliance with current health prevention measures, a program that we have designed directly with the associations. Thus, on Saturday, in the morning and afternoon, ten protectors will be able to show their work in the stalls that will be installed in the central Plaza de La Concepción and, the next day, we will celebrate a digital edition with informative videos of four other shelters and with the traditional presentation of animals that are waiting for a family to take them in, ”says the councilor.

In addition, Hernández highlights that, in this edition, “actions have been reinforced to promote the importance of adoption, responsible ownership and avoid abandonment and mistreatment of animals, with awareness-raising actions in the educational community and environmental workshops. for families, to which will be added the interesting proposals that the protectors are developing ”.

The program of activities will begin on International Animal Rights Day (December 10) with talks and workshops to raise awareness and sensitization for 6th grade students in schools, and will continue on Saturday with the Adoption Fair in the square. of La Concepción, with 10 protectors, a space to exchange adoption and care experiences with professionals, an environmental reuse workshop for families and a campaign to collect food and other donations, which will be distributed among all participating associations, all with free admission until full capacity is reached.

The program will end on Sunday (December 12) with the virtual Adoption Fair, in which 4 protectors will participate. A team will travel to the different facilities to record the different aspects of each one of them and to publicize their day-to-day activities, the performances they carry out, etc. In addition, the day will include participation actions and exchange of experiences, a reuse workshop will be given and the traditional parade “for adoption” will be offered with videos of all the associations.

This III edition of the Lagoon Adoption Fair wants to contribute to make visible the current work of animal protectors and promote adoption and responsible ownership, emphasizing the need for all companion animals to be registered and sanitary controlled, as well as help the protectors to obtain funds and food and sensitize citizens of the importance of adoption and against animal abandonment.
