Work begins to adapt the beachfront of Playa de La Arena

The Work to refurbish the front area of ​​Playa de La Arena is already underway. With an investment of almost 350,000 euros, it is about adapting the area to the needs of the resident population and visitors, maintaining the characteristics of this important tourist area of ​​Santiago del Teide. Its mayor, Emilio Navarro, and representatives of the company that was awarded the work signed the reconsideration act that marks the start of the work. Several members of the government group, members of the company and municipal technicians were present at the event.

Navarro explained that It is a “necessary and demanded” intervention in which the local government “has been working for a long time” since the objective is “to optimize all the resources that are within our reach to favor development and growth”. An issue that becomes essential “at a time like the present, in which the reactivation of the economy and employment is fundamental for our society.”

In the case of the adaptation works of the beachfront of Playa de La Arena, the Santiago del Teide City Council will invest, specifically, 344,099 euros.

The action will consist of the adaptation of the accessibility conditions of the public space. To do this, an intervention consisting of the improvement of pedestrian routes is projected, in the suppression of architectural barriers, in the adaptation of the safety conditions of the pedestrian crossings, in the provision and adaptation of parking spaces for people with mobility reduced, in the replacement of urban furniture, tree pits and painted, among other issues. Added to this is the installation of recharging points for electric vehicles.

“The purpose of the works is to solve functional problems” mainly associated with public spaces and their inadequacy for accessibility purposes, such as pedestrian routes, crossings between pedestrian and vehicular routes, pedestrian areas, urban furniture, parking and signaling, as well as aesthetic problems, in the case of banks. , lighting fixtures, bins, planters, railings, handrails and other furniture items.

A key intervention

This is one of the works in which the municipal government plans to invest around 800,000 euros just for the drafting of the projects. Its subsequent execution will require an estimated investment of around 20 million euros, according to the mayor of Santiago.

In addition, A section of pavement on Malpaís Street, in Tamaimo, is already under construction. This is the route that runs from the area of ​​the road near the main road to its connection with the sidewalk located in the vicinity of IES Tamaimo, always on the right side in an upward direction of traffic.

The Santiago del Teide City Council invests more than 18,000 euros in enabling this pedestrian crossing that will provide security to users in a very busy area, since around this enclave they are located in the Tamaimo Infant and Primary Education Center (CEIP), the soccer field, the local Secondary Education Institute (IES), as well as a set of single-family homes.
