The Arafo government group undertook to create a working table with technicians to agree on those data in which the census of companies in the Valle de Güímar and El Carretón Industrial Park can be expanded, with which it already has for greater control of the same, above all, with regard to environmental care, after the fines imposed on some of these companies for discharging wastewater into the rainwater network.
This agreement comes after Izquierda Unida took forward in the last plenary session the motion relative to advance in the census of activities and the implementation of an inspection plan in the Polygon to verify that the activities are carried out in accordance with the standards necessary to mitigate unfavorable effects on the environment.
After accepting several amendments, the motion of IU Arafo was finally approved, which is committed to the existence of a dynamic Industrial Estate that is, in turn, a pioneer in the environmental management of its surroundings.
According to Yurena González, councilor for Izquierda Unida in Arafo, “in the municipality corrective measures are demanded against a typology of activities, which by themselves or due to their cumulative effect, are likely to cause annoyances, alter health conditions, cause damage to the environment or to produce risks for people ”, adding that“ there are neighborhood complaints not only due to discharges into the sea, but also due to noise, the traffic situation, odors and the accumulation of solid waste at different points ”.
He also made it clear in the motion that a territorial and environmental planning of the area and its development is missing, for example along the access road to the municipality (TF-281), where the entry and exit of trucks from large tonnage produces dangerous situations. The motion requests the transfer of the same to the municipalities of Güímar and Candelaria to promote the initiative at the regional level.
