
Christmas is already breathing in the south of Tenerife. The festivities are announced with a display of energy-efficient lighting and decorations that appear in streets, avenues and squares. The town councils of the region have programmed a calendar full of activities in order to stimulate purchases and help local commerce, from the prudence that the times of COVID-19 advise.
After the Christmas lighting of Arona, received with chestnuts, sweets and wine in Valle San Lorenzo, the municipality prepares for the parades, which will begin in Guaza next Thursday, to continue the next day in El Fraile, and on 27 and 28 in Cabo Blanco and La Camella, respectively. The protagonist will be a Christmas character who will visit the commercial areas of these centers, in addition to other itinerant activities.
On the 17th, the Regala Arona initiative will arrive in Los Cristianos. Between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. children’s workshops will be held, the craft market will open, there will be a gastronomic route and the streets will be filled with characters characteristic of these festivals. Las Galletas will take over on the 22nd, with the Amadrina a dessert proposal, in which the grandmothers will give their particular recipe to bars, cafes and restaurants participating in a very original and familiar gastronomic tour.
Among the Christmas activities programmed by the Adeje City Council, which have been underway since November 29, the great Christmas concert of Los Sabandeños stands out on December 23, at 8:00 p.m., in the Plaza de España. The portals of Bethlehem will also be protagonists in towns such as Armeñime, where the Nativity will be blessed on the 10th in the area outside the cultural center, while on the 19th the childhood of the parish will perform the traditional living Bethlehem.
In addition, the squares of all the neighborhoods will be the scene of Christmas carols, the craft fair will occupy the parking lot of the School of Music between the 16 and the 19 and the Salytien square, in Costa Adeje, will host between the 27 and 29 December a Christmas fair. Another of the most anticipated activities, the Christmas playground, will remain open from December 26 to January 4 at the El Galeón sports hall. The City Council has also scheduled plays, library events and musical concerts.
Guía de Isora is another municipality that dedicates an extensive program to Christmas. Its program of events will be distributed among the cultural centers of the municipality, the auditorium and some public squares. Among the activities, the Christmas themed workshops stand out, which will consist of crafts to create ornaments or decorative figures and the making of nativity scenes, trees and letters to the three kings. The most immediate will be the performance, next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., of the Tingara Senior Citizen Association at the Alcalá Cultural Center. For Friday, a children’s puppet show is announced in the auditorium, and a gospel concert at the Cultural Center of Playa San Juan.
Granadilla de Abona launched its Christmas campaign with the lighting of lights and a concert by the José Reyes Martín Cultural Society in the San Antonio church square. The City Council has scheduled various commemorative events and, among other initiatives, has installed 14 Christmas trees in different parts of the municipality with the support of various neighborhood groups and associations. The sample will remain in the streets until next January 10.
San Miguel de Abona prepares sports festivals, parades, tournaments, exhibitions and concerts. The program, which began on December 3, will take into account the catastrophe of La Palma. Arico has already opened the registration period until the 16th to participate in the contests of nativity scenes, facades and Christmas stories. In the case of the first two, all those people and groups of the municipal term may appear. With regard to the stories, all the children and young people of the municipality who write about “the magic of Christmas, the traditions and the meaning of this celebration” can participate, it is indicated from the City Council.
