Tourism development, business and research are the objectives of the Welcome2 project. 85% financed by the European Regional Development Funds (Feder), it is one of the 67 programs approved in the second call of the Interreg Mac 2014-2020 Program. It aims to deploy routers with a single Wi-Fi network that bears the name of the project in the attached territories. It will allow tourists to navigate throughout the territory with a single record and obtain user behavior data, conduct surveys and promote local businesses.
The Granadilla de Abona City Council presented Welcome2 to local companies and businesses linked to the tourism sector, to whom it explained its benefits for incorporating new digital technologies. He did it during a conference on tourism and big data. The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, and the councilors for Tourism and AEDL, Eudita Mendoza and Yanira González, respectively, attended; the president of the El Médano Business Association, Jorge González, as well as some thirty companies in the municipality.
The Hotel Médano was the host space that hosted the event, organized by the City Council, together with the Association of Companies and Merchants of El Médano, who thanked the involvement of businessmen and the population of Granada, as well as the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Ulpgc), for technically leading the project.
