The Fajardo Theater, in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, hosted last week the celebration of the First Conference on Communication and Gender Communicating with Perspective, organized by the Network of Municipalities for Gender Equality of the North of Tenerife, in which the City Council of Icod de los Vinos is currently in charge of the Technical Secretariat.
The meeting had the participation of two communication professionals in charge of giving the conferences. Sonia Chinea, doctor in Information Sciences and professor of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication at the University of La Laguna, gave the talk on Communication with a gender perspective. From traditional media to disinformation and hate speech on the network, while Noemí Galván, Equality delegate at Canary Islands Radiotelevision, spoke about the Promotion of Equality from the public media: the case of Canarian Radiotelevision.
The day concluded with a round table where the role of communication as an axis of change towards an egalitarian society was discussed. It was moderated by Francisco Javier Pérez Velázquez, head of the Los Silos City Council Press Office, and was attended by Noemí Galván herself; Isabel Robayna, publicist and producer, specialized in corporate social responsibility, culture and the production and dissemination of events, and Narciso Ramos, director of Ycoden Daute Radio and the digital newspaper Elperiodicodeycodendaute.es.

The organization emphasizes that these first Communication and Gender Conference in the north of Tenerife served to “highlight the importance of egalitarian communication, in order to create a fairer and more democratic society. A media treatment that helps raise social awareness of the inequality that women experience in their day-to-day lives, that serves to combat it and to change it definitively.
