SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The PP of Icod de Los Vinos (Tenerife) will take to the next municipal plenary session a proposal to urge the Government of the Canary Islands to carry out a study to determine the feasibility of using the ash from the La Palma volcano for the replacement of sand in Playa de San Marcos.
The municipal popular spokesman, José María Polegre, has hoped to have the support of the rest of the parties, “since it could provide a solution to the problem of lack of sand that the emblematic beach of the municipality suffers.”
In a statement, he recalled that “the serious circumstance affecting the San Marcos beach due to the loss of sand that it has suffered for years is known to all, without the administrations having given it a definitive solution.”
On the other hand, this Sunday marks 90 days since the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma began, “which is accumulating a huge amount of ash” throughout the island, and especially in the Aridane Valley.
“The appearance of the ash from La Palma is very similar to the traditional sand from San Marcos beach, so we will defend that it be studied whether the ash from La Palma is suitable to be able to carry out replacements,” he concluded.
