SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife) has completed 22 years yesterday since its inclusion among the World Heritage Cities granted by Unesco, as reported by the City Council in a press release.
In this sense, the anniversary has coincided with the celebration on yesterday Saturday of the Assembly of Mayors of the Group of World Heritage Cities has been held in Cuenca.
For its part, La Laguna has commemorated this anniversary with the launch of commemorative salvos as the culmination of an outreach and dissemination program that has been held throughout the month of November.
As for the Assembly, it has approved that Salamanca take over the presidency of the Group in January 2022, replacing Mérida.
Meanwhile, La Laguna, which this year has chaired the Culture Commission, will go on to chair the Heritage Commission in the figure of the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.
Precisely the mayor considered that “the year 2022 should set the tone for the tourist, economic recovery and promotion of the heritage wealth of our cities.”
In this regard, the Group intends to “put the focus in 2022” on the combination of heritage and gastronomy, and is already studying the possibilities of participating in different gastronomic fairs for next year.
Among the agreements of the Assembly are the celebration of a Spanish-Portuguese summit in Mérida on the occasion of the World Heritage Convention in 2022, the convocation of a new edition of The Heritage Night on September 17, 2022 or the resumption of the Circuit of Careers in the World Heritage Cities next year.
