SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the PP of Tenerife and regional deputy, Manuel Domínguez, presented his candidacy this Friday to preside over the formation of the Canary Islands with a message of unity and recovery of militants who went to other parties and very convinced of their own possibilities.
“I am not coming to fail,” he pointed out at a press conference held in a hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in which he called for a “cohesive, strong and muscular” PP to return to government tasks in the autonomous community under the slogan ‘Together’.
He has defined the PP as a “family of the brave” that has defended its values when it was attacked and apart from attracting to the training “young values” and members who “looked the other way” and left the training, it has committed to ” pamper and protect “the almost 40,000 militants of the archipelago.
“I am excited and willing to give everything,” he commented, leaving the door open to not run for mayor of Los Realejos in 2023 if he is elected president, but first you have to climb this “first step.”
Domínguez has guaranteed that the PP will return to govern in the Canary Islands if it remains united and although he has not hidden that there are “difficulties” – in reference to a sector of the party in Gran Canaria that claims the presidency – he believes that the president must be measured by their “capacity” and not because of the place of origin, taking as an example that Senator Asier Antona, from La Palma, has already held the position.
He has affirmed that in his political career he has become accustomed to “climbing hills” and understands that now the PP “has to grow and rebound.”
He has not ruled out that there is an alternative candidacy to his and about the role that the president of the PP of Gran Canaria and regional deputy, Poli Suárez, can play, he has said that “he has the capacity” and it is good that there are people like him in the party , and in one way or another he will be on his team by being the island president.
WISHES LOPE AFONSO TO LEAD SOME CANDIDATURE
Domínguez has denied being the ‘Genoa candidate’ because he has not heard any national leader position himself with his candidacy, but he has clarified that “out of respect and loyalty” he communicated his plans to the national leadership.
On the possible political orientation of the party if he accedes to the presidency, he has commented that “it is too early” to draw an electoral strategy because there is not even an organic structure but he has made it clear that “the objective is to govern.”
Domínguez has also said that he hopes that the former mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Lope Afonso, will lead an electoral list in 2023 after the judicial acquittal of an “unjust” conviction that he removed from the Cabildo in 2019, and on Senator Antonio Alarcó he has commented that he has “great respect” for him and will have a “very important role” in the future.
The PP congress will be held on January 22 and 23 in Tenerife and will have 590 delegates, of which 472 will be elected and 188 born.
