The Civil Guard has arrested a man as the author of a crime of fraud for appropriating donations from La Palma and sell them in thrift stores. The value of the recovered amounts to 15,000 euros.
The detainee offered his help to a charity association in Tenerife to transport the belongings and food that he had collected to the island of La Palma and, posing as a manager of a false solidarity association, the scammer contributed the three containers to load them with all donations, the Corps reported in a statement.
The affected association, after the transport was delayed, contacted the now detained person to find out the reasons for the delay and received a video in response in which several people were seen unloading and distributing belongings.
However, they were able to verify that the images were old and that they did not correspond to any real transfer to the island of La Palma.
Investigators have verified that the containers are in the same place where they were filled, in the town of San Isidro. For their part, the Civil Guards of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife) have carried out several searches authorized by the investigating court number 4 of that town.
