The construction site of the new free public parking in the Lercaro urbanization, in La Orotava, began this Tuesday with the fencing of the municipal plot of 5,700 square meters that will house space for parking 170 vehicles just 5 minutes walk from the historic center. This action, budgeted at 240,000 euros, has 80% funding from the La Orotava City Council and 20% from Tenerife Council, through the insular area of Socioeconomic Development.

The new parking lot will be divided into two areas at different heights to save the slope, with capacity for about 95 vehicles in the lower area and about 75 in the upper area. It is located next to the roundabout that gives access to Avenida de Graham Toler and next to the exit road to El Mayorazgo. Very close to IES Rafael Arozarena and the rear of the municipal cemetery.

The mayor of Urbanism of the La Orotava City Council, Narciso Pérez (CC), explained to EL DÍA that this action has an execution period of 4 months, therefore, if there are no delays, it should conclude at the end of March 2022. In his opinion, the most An important part of this infrastructure is its location, due to the service it will provide to the center.

It is located on a plot next to Graham Toler Avenue and the exit road to El Mayorazgo

The new public car park will be accessed through the small roundabout that already exists in the area and will exit through the road that connects with the access to El Mayorazgo and La Playita. The local government hopes to facilitate with this project parking in this key area due to its proximity to the historic center of the Villa and to the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, the Town Hall, the cemetery or the nearby institute.

Last February, the councilor responsible for the insular area of Socioeconomic Development, Carmen Luz Baso Lorenzo (PSOE), from Silence, visited with the mayor and the councilors of Infrastructure and Commerce, Narciso Pérez and Felipe David Benítez (CC), the solar chosen to assess on the spot a performance that was put out to tender in September.

Linares stressed then that this action, planned at least since 2010, could not be delayed any longer in time, “because it will surely contribute, due to its proximity to the downtown area, to promote and enhance local commerce. It will allow residents and visitors to park in an area close to the town and thus be able to make their purchases more comfortable and calm. This action also fulfills a commitment acquired with the business and commercial sector of the municipality.

The island councilor also valued the interest of the Orotavense Council in taking the reins of this project to speed up the start of the work, “especially in these difficult times in which any action is necessary for the revitalization and reactivation of the economy.”

The car park located in the middle area of the Lercaro urbanization It will have a level of more than 2,300 square meters and another of about 2,200 meters, while the rest will be occupied with slopes and ramps. There will be at least five spaces for vehicles of people with functional diversity.
