SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, has defended this Wednesday that the economic aid to La Palma “is arriving” amid strong criticism from the opposition that countered his speech by affirming that many victims are living “on charity” .
In a tense appearance in parliamentary commission in which the political unity around the Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption has begun to fracture, Pérez has acknowledged that the volume of aid “is not enough” but has denied that there is “inaction” by part of public administrations.
The counselor has given as an example of aid the accommodation in hotels, the ERTE, the acquisition of houses, the supplement of the PCI or the fiscal benefits. “How can they come here and not let their faces fall?” He snapped at the opposition deputies.
He also said that the Insurance Consortium has paid almost 40 million in compensation and has approved a single registry of affected people that has no references in other catastrophes.
Pérez has appealed to “flee from defeatism” because they “instill discouragement” in the population and has complained of “repeating the mantra” that there is no aid but has guaranteed that La Palma will recover.
Along these lines, he said that the most important thing is to achieve the recovery of La Palma and that happens by “not simplifying” the problems, reducing the solution through transferring money to the pockets of those affected.
Jonathan Felipe (CC-PNC) has warned that in La Palma there is an “emotional outburst” and there are not enough psychologists or psychiatrists to attend to those affected, who feel a situation of “abandonment” because they do not know when the aid will arrive. direct.
He has said that the palmeros “are saved by charity and solidarity” and has insisted that his group is not going to align itself with the “inaction” of the institutions.
He regretted that the palm trees only observed announcements and decree laws in up to seven visits by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, which later “did not materialize” and commented that “we have to rethink” La Palma because many families are marching to Tenerife and Gran Canaria and enrolling their children there.
Felipe has also criticized that in the General State Budgets “there is not even one euro” for La Palma.
Ricardo Fernández (Cs) has commented that the “harsh reality” of La Palma is the hectares and buildings demolished by the lava and for this reason, he has demanded that the aid be expedited because there is “inefficiency” and the situation is “dramatic”.
“There is a lot of money but it needs to reach the pockets of the palm trees,” he added.
Melodie Mendoza (ASG) has defended that there is a “maximum sensitivity” of all the administrations to help the reconstruction of La Palma, assuming that there are damages “very difficult to repair” and that it is difficult to “meet expectations”.
“FEELING ABANDONMENT”
He has said that he understands the “feeling of abandonment” that the palm trees may feel but at the same time admits the “complex” operation of public administrations and the delay in seeing the measures adopted.
Francisco Déniz (Sí Podemos) has also admitted that there is “despair” among those affected by the eruption but the aid “is coming” and the eruption continues.
Astrid Pérez, from the Popular Group, has criticized that after “incessant announcements” from the central and regional governments “the aid is still at the same starting point” for which she has demanded greater agility from the administrations.
He has said that the Canarian Government “does not control the times well”, giving as an example the delivery of the first homes on the island that lacked some basic services.
Matilde Fleitas (PSOE) has said that in the Aridane Valley “we do not live on charity”, on the contrary, it is supported by public aid and projects that are underway. “Do not continue to confuse families,” he commented.
In this sense, it has valued that all public services are maintained and the income of 1.5 million in the coffers of the three affected municipalities for distribution among the victims as social emergency aid. “What we are not going to do is enter 200 million into an account to distribute among the victims,” he stressed.
