The State’s general budgets (PGE) for next year include seven million euros for solve the traffic problem linked to the activity of the port and the beach of Los Tarajales, both in The Christians. Yesterday, the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, expressed his satisfaction for this fact and made a public recognition to the vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez, because it represents the fulfillment of the commitment he made during his visit to the municipality on 13 of September.
The draft Law on General State Budgets – already approved by the Congress of Deputies last Thursday – contains those two “key” items for Arona “that Mena himself had claimed,” says the municipal government. «On the one hand, the improvement of mobility and traffic in the access to the Port; on the other, the regeneration of the bay of Los Cristianos and the beach of Los Tarajales, so that it can return to its original state ”, he explains.
The two budget items correspond to the amendments presented by New Canary Islands (NC), the political formation led by Román Rodríguez. These seven million destined to Los Cristianos are part of the improvements raised by this party worth more than one hundred million euros. Mena emphasizes that it corresponds to what was expressed by the vice president of the Canary Islands during his visit, during which he held several meetings with the mayor, including the one held with representatives of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Of the two amendments presented, the most relevant amounts to five million euros, destined to modify the accesses to the pier. Along these lines, the mayor of Arona has proposed on multiple occasions the Burial of Chayofita Avenue, in such a way that the traffic generated by the Port of Los Cristianos runs underground from and almost to the highway without generating problems in the traffic of the tourist town. In a statement, the local government emphasizes that “it must be taken into account that queues and mobility problems significantly weigh on the port’s own operations.”
On the other hand, another two million euros will allow performances on the beach of Los Tarajales, which is part of the bay of Los Cristianos, whose regeneration was proposed by the City Council, as well as the recovery of the beach itself, returning it to its original state. It should be remembered that this action already counted per project and that it could not be carried out when the environmental impact statement expired, on December 12, 2019, as no works had been tendered.
José Julián Mena stressed the importance of compliance with the agreements acquired by the vice president of the Canary Islands Government, Román Rodríguez, during his visit to Arona. «Those commitments have been specified in amendments to the General State Budgets, which now include seven million euros that will go to modernization, key, of Los Cristianos, improving its competitiveness, both tourist and due to its character as head of the region, two fundamental aspects for this nucleus ».
