The Ichasagua Secondary Education Institute, in Los Cristianos, welcomes from Saturday until next weekend a group of 31 students from the Collège Pierre-Auguste Renoir, from the French town of Ferrières-en-Gatinâis, who will live with students from 3rd and 4th year of ESO of the southern educational center within the framework of the Erasmus project of the European Union.
The students will participate in recreational-educational activities and the French students will have the opportunity to discover a large part of the cultural, historical and landscape heritage of the municipality of Arona and the island of Tenerife. The first scheduled act will take place today with a climb to Chayofita mountain, guided by Basic Vocational Training students who are part of the Adaptation and Improvement Plan for Employment.
In subsequent days, students from both schools will participate in different intercultural workshops, including one on Canarian painting, and in sports tournaments, specifically in badminton, volleyball and basketball competitions. The activity program also includes an excursion to the Teide National Park, a boat trip to spot cetaceans and a guided visit to the Casa de la Bodega, in Arona. A solidarity race, dedicated to those affected by the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on La Palma, will put the culmination of the week.
As the organizers of the meeting informed DIARIO DE AVISOS, the visit – which was scheduled for the month of March 2020 and was suspended due to the pandemic – responds to the objective of improving linguistic competence in French and Spanish and raising awareness about identity and European citizenship. In the first fortnight of May next year, students from the Ichasagua Institute who participate in the project will return the visit to their French colleagues coinciding with the celebration, on May 9, of Europe Day.
The IES Ichasagua, which began its internationalization plan in 2019, was designated in 2020 as an Ambassador School of the European Parliament and received the distinction of ambassador center of the Canary Islands Strategy for the Internationalization of Education, by the Government of the Canary Islands.
