The boards slide down the slopes of Icod de los Vinos again

The boards slide again tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday on the slopes of Icod de los Vinos, after the stoppage forced by the pandemic of the coronavirus. The City of Drago takes up, although with limitations and without a street party, one of its most deeply rooted and peculiar traditions, the one that leads children, young and old to get on a small board to descend at full speed through one of the streets steepest, on the occasion of the eve and the day of San Andrés.

They will not yet be the holidays desired by the people of ICD, but at least they will be able to meet again, for two days, with a tradition that many carry in their blood. The mayor, Francis González (CC), who is still crawling, recently issued a statement in which the activity is ordered and limited to the 29th and 30th, from nine in the morning until twelve at night. With a specific regulation for El Plano street.

«Last year we had to go out to say that there would be no San Andrés and the neighbors responded. The current moment is very different and it made no sense to stop this tradition that the people do again, after seeing full football stadiums. Unfortunately, we have had to dictate a team to try to guarantee health security and avoid excesses, “explained the mayor of Icodean, who acknowledges that it causes him” a terrible anguish to think that the fact of not putting rubber bands on the streets could generate some injurious event ».

«San Andrés is made by the people and the City Council is limited to accompanying this popular demonstration with lighting, protection and personnel. It no longer made sense to ban again, ”says González.

The side allows itself “to comply with the tradition of San Andrés consisting only of dragging the boards, strictly complying with all the measures of social distancing and use of the mask”, at the aforementioned schedule and with a different regulation for the street El Flat, where trawling is only allowed from 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to midnight, and from 9:00 a.m. to midnight on the 30th. Access will be controlled by the Local Police and Civil Protection.

With mask

“Drinks may not be consumed on the street, nor will it be allowed to set up grills, bars or beach bars on public roads. You will have to crawl with a mask and to enjoy the gastronomy it will be necessary to use the protocolized environments of bars and restaurants in the municipality, which need to be consumed. It is what we can have in the current situation, “laments the mayor.

In order to reconcile the restoration activity on Calle de San Sebastián with dragging on Calle Los Franceses, «Only boys and girls under the age of eight may crawl on this road, that they must be under the care of a person of legal age at all times ”, it is noted on the side.

There will be capacity limitations in the busiest streets and the tables can be followed live from El Plano street through municipal social networks and also in two special programs on Mírame TV, which will be broadcast live tomorrow and Tuesday.
