The uncertainties facing the Carnival of Santa Cruz have just multiplied after the Autonomous Organization of Festivities and Recreational Activities has declared void the competition negotiated without advertising for the construction of the stage for contests and galas.
Three companies had been invited to this contest, after the ordinary tender had also been deserted. As the Party Councilor, Alfonso Cabello, admits, this setback deeply worries him given the times for organizing a party that are already very close to the limit.
Cabello explains that, “two companies presented themselves for the negotiation without advertising, but they did so at a higher cost than the tender, so we have been forced to declare it void.”
“We have called an urgent meeting for this Monday to analyze the steps we can take and what are the alternatives to ensure the celebration of Carnival 2021,” added the mayor.
And, as the mayor admitted, the problems that are occurring around the world with the transport of containers, whose cost has been multiplied, are preventing companies from adjusting to the prices established by the City Council.
In any case, “we will look for a way, within the law of public sector contracts, to solve this setback and ensure the celebration of Carnival.”
