The island’s Governing Council awarded it yesterday on contract for the execution of works to improve municipal reservoirs and drinking water supply networks in Fasnia. The winning company is Canaragua Concesiones, SA, for an amount of 1,089,000 euros. The action is included in the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2018-2021 and will be financed 90% by the Council (980,100 euros), while the remaining 10% corresponds to the financing provided by the City Council (108,900 euros).
The island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, points out that all the storage of water for human consumption in the municipality will be renewed and regularized in accordance with the law and current regulations. Which did not happen before. He emphasizes that these works will provide this service “with totally modern and future-oriented mechanisms.”
Chinea informs that the works will have a term of execution of nine months and will consist, fundamentally, in the renovation of the main pipes, the installation of meters, the filtration and self-dosing chlorination and the reduction of pressures.
Specific, the Pino del Agua, Fasnia II, La Zarza and Las Eras deposits will be conditioned, in order to improve their status and adapt them to the sanitary criteria of the quality of water for human consumption.
Chinea has explained that sectorization measures will also be taken in the supply network. Likewise, the counselor stressed that the deposits called Fasnia I and La Zarza I “will remain outside the normal operation of the network, remaining as a reserve for emergency situations.”
For his part, the mayor of Fasnia, Damián Pérez, has valued “the willingness and interest of Chinea and its technical team.” The Alderman Fasniero highlights the fact that this action is “a key work” for the municipality, “both in the field of deposits and in the sectorization.” The most relevant objective, in the opinion of the mayor, is that “the losses that occur in the municipal drinking water supply network will be minimized”, although he emphasizes that this produces a notable important improvement in one of the essential services to the population.
