The Canary Islands Platform for People Affected by the Coastal Law, chaired by the lawyer José Luis Langa, will carry out legal actions before the Administrative Litigation Court to prevent a score of families who are threatened with demolition of their homes on the beach of El Callao, in Las Bajas, in the municipality of Güímar, lose their houses, more than half, the first and only dwelling.
This was indicated by the lawyer, who also explained that the families affected by the Coastal Law “have suffered a double blow, first because in March the City Council evicted them, assuring that they are going to carry out works that are already stopped, and now because from Coasts they threatens demolition ”, he clarifies.
It should be remembered that the Provincial Coastal Service of Tenerife sent on November 12 an execution order for the eviction and demolition of these houses, in which it is ensured that “this Provincial Coastal Service shall proceed to the compulsory and subsidiary execution of the cited resolution of possessory recovery, by means of the demolition and removal of their remains with the restoration of the land to its original state ”, for which they were given a period of ten days.
As Langa explained, “we are faced with one more case of neglect of the Canarian reality by the state institutions, which proceed without taking into account the history of a people and the right that these people who have been in these houses for years and for those who have paid their taxes ”.
In any case, the Platform has decided to meet with all the political groups with parliamentary representation in the Canary Islands and with the General Directorate of Coasts in Madrid, in addition to taking the issue to the European Parliament, since “this situation would stop if it were known that the Canary Islands lived and will always live by the sea ”. In addition, he clarified that “I am almost sure that the courts will agree with us and these people, like many others previously, will be able to return to their homes without feeling threatened.”
Also present was Luisa Castro, PP spokesperson in Güímar, who has requested an extraordinary plenary session to deal with the “double eviction” of Las Bajas, lamenting that “they have acted on land that is not municipal, without prior technical study, and that closed the only road that connects the coast of Agache with El Puertito ”.
Mayor
In the afternoon, the mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez; the first deputy mayor, Airam Puerta, and the mayor of Social Services, José Miguel Hernández, met with a dozen neighbors to tell them that the City Council “works on rental assistance to those families that it considers Social Services, understanding that they are special circumstances ”.
He also declared that “we are not in conflict with the neighbors, we want to help them, but there is no magic wand that will solve the situation. We are going to work with you (neighbors) on possible solutions ”, he explained. And he recalled that the works are stopped at the beginning of the procedure to terminate the contract of the work, after the extra cost collected in the report of the municipal secretary. Of the demolition order transferred by Costas, Pérez only said that “the explanation of the procedure belongs to the Demarcation of Coasts.”
