The municipal government explains that these aids are part of the line of the Activa Arona program, launched in July with an endowment of 2.5 million euros. That amount also includes other lines of subsidies, such as those that have been convened for other groups, such as the taxi.
The Activa Arona program opened its call to inject liquidity to companies last July. In its bases it is established that the amount of the aid ranges between 1,500 and 3,000 euros, conditional on the plaintiffs having employees and, if so, their number. The limit established in this call is in small and medium-sized companies whose workforce is made up of up to 50 employees.
The municipal government of Arona reports that of the 719 applications received in the last four months, it has already resolved 403, of which 183 have already been paid. “As the days go by, both the number of resolutions and subscriptions increases,” he emphasizes. “Four months after opening the term, more than half of the requests have been resolved and, of these, almost 50% have been paid,” he highlights in his analysis.
Arona’s line of aid for the self-employed, SMEs and micro-SMEs amounts to 1.6 million euros, which are part of the 2.5 million package. This is equivalent to “an increase with respect to the call for the year 2020,” says the local government.
Both the Mayor of Aronero, José Julián Mena, and the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Raquel García, have stressed that «The call for this year, only in regard to the self-employed and SMEs, amounts to 1.6 million euros, which is 60% more than in 2020, with aid ranging from 1,500 to 3,000, which does not solve the underlying problem, but represents an injection of fundamental liquidity at the moment ”.
SMEs, micro-SMEs and freelancers make up more than 80% of the business fabric of the municipality, to which the Activa Arona program is directed, created with the purpose of alleviating the economic consequences derived from the covid-19 pandemic, protecting, activating and promoting the productive fabric of Arona. The corporation will thus help small entrepreneurs meet their business obligations with the ultimate goal of maintaining business activity and employment over time, the government explains.
The aid seeks to contribute to achieving the objective stated in the middle of the pandemic by the mayor: “Our priority is employment, maintaining economic activity and generating a climate of confidence for investment.”
