The index analyzes the management of cultural diversity from different perspectives of action. Tenerife has obtained 56 points out of 100 in this evaluation and exceeds the average of the territories analyzed in 10 of the 18 aspects evaluated. Despite some changes in the evaluation criteria introduced since 2012, the Island continues to show evident progress in its objective of consolidating interculturality as an approach to social coexistence.
The aspects that still need to be improved by Tenerife to achieve the average of the analyzed territories are the integration of intercultural issues in the business and labor world; public services aimed at the cultural diversity of the population; the reception of migrants and refugees; skills in the languages spoken in the territory; the incorporation of interculturality and the intercultural perspective in the educational system; the intercultural lens in public policies; the interaction of diverse groups in public spaces, as well as coexistence in neighborhoods and neighborhoods.
The president of the Spanish Network of Intercultural Cities RECI, Jaume Lanaspa, and its coordinator, Gemma Pinyol, have held working meetings with different entities to learn about the work in the management of cultural diversity. And, in addition, publicize the results of this new evaluation of the Intercultural Cities Index, in which Tenerife improves its results with respect to the previous evaluation of 2018
The Island has obtained the maximum score (100) in the international perspective sections, which assesses relationships and the exchange of experiences and knowledge; in policies related to cultural and social life, as well as in interaction between people and diverse groups.
