The Tenerife Diabetes Association (ADT) serves some 2,000 people affected by this disease during this year 2021. The work of this entity extends beyond patients, reaching up to 5,000 other people indirectly, thanks to its work awareness and training. Since 2016, the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care, collaborates with the association for the care of this group, as well as the population at risk of suffering from it.
To increase knowledge about this pathology and its prevention, the ADT has launched the project Comprehensive Care for People with Diabetes in Tenerife, which has the support of the Insular Ring of Social Policies. Thanks to this collaboration, the entity offers advice and learning about the disease.
The objective is not only to inform about the consequences of this pathology, but also to advise and sensitize the population as a whole about how it affects well-being and lifestyle. “It is important to care for and help people affected by diabetes, but it is also essential to achieve widespread knowledge in society that translates into more supportive habits, early diagnoses and a better inclusion of those who suffer from it,” they explain.
This association carries out its work throughout the island, thanks to its three headquarters, in La Laguna, Los Realejos and Granadilla. In addition, they direct their work in other locations on the island, attending to the demand and needs that arise. To do this, they have an annual aid of 97,500 euros from the Insular Ring which, as explained by the association, has been “essential” when expanding its territorial scope and, above all, to strengthen its educational offer. “In the current context, with the pandemic, the contribution of the Cabildo has been key to continuing to carry out our training actions electronically,” they emphasize.
