This inauguration has been one of the last activities that will be developed within the framework of the training and employment program Discover Buenavista, promoted by the Buenavista del Norte City Council and financed by the European Social Fund.
The Councilor for Local Development of the Buenavista del Norte City Council, Vanesa Martín Évora (Yes it is possible), explains that «from the Consistory it has opted to train unemployed young people so that they are able to function in the employment field of tourism rural. Not only in the attention of the visitor, but also in the creation of attractive products and contents for tourism that value the heritage and ethnographic wealth of this municipality of the Baja Island.
With this exhibition it is intended honor all the inhabitants of Teno Alto and their traditions. «From agriculture to livestock, through the manufacture of tiles and the peculiar way of transporting the deceased to the town of Buenavista del Norte since time immemorial. A peculiar way of life that this exhibition aims to make known and conserve for future generations. The sample was presented at the Teno Alto school, located in the Plaza de Los Bailaderos.
Personal interviews
The working students of the PFAE GJ Discover Buenavista have been in charge of compiling all the information that the exhibition shows. To achieve this, they have held various interviews with neighbors of this nucleus of midlands and have also been documented through different specific bibliography. In addition, they have also been in charge of preparing and organizing the exhibition content. They have also been responsible for organizing the opening ceremony, counting on the collaboration of companies and residents of the Teno Alto hamlet and the Buenavista del Norte City Council itself.
One of the guests of honor to this presentation ceremony was Cipriana Martín, owner of the Teno Alto store, “on behalf of the residents of the area and in recognition of her commitment and collaboration with the students of the training and job”. Representatives of the Buenavista del Norte City Council were also present.
Recognition to the Marías
The so-called Marías de Teno have recently received the Tenerife Rural 2020 Award from the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín (PSOE). Although it was granted to them a year ago, the delivery ceremony has taken twelve months to be held due to the covid-19 pandemic. The Buenavista del Norte City Council proposed that these women from Teno be recognized in such a way as to pay homage “to the role of women in the rural world, often invisible and silent, but essential for supporting families.” The Marías who have received this recognition are María del Rosario Regalado or María de Los Dornajos; María del Carmen Verde Martín or María de Las Cuevas; María del Carmen González Martín or María Carmensa from La Tablada; María González Regalado or María de El Vallado; María Teresa Martín Regalado or María Teresa de La Zahorra; María Agustina Álvarez González or María de La Abejera, and María Rodríguez González or María de La Mesita.
