SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Salvamento Marítimo has rescued this noon a new boat with 30 people on board, all males of Maghreb origin, which was intercepted in the south of Gran Canaria. With this new group, there are already 169 migrants rescued this Sunday, eight of whom died during the journey.
On this occasion, it was the Spanish Navy patrol boat Tornado that, at around 12 noon, contacted the Maritime Rescue Control Center in Las Palmas to report that they had detected a dinghy some 17 miles from the Maspalomas lighthouse. For this reason, the Control Center mobilized the rescue Macondo, who went to the area while the patrol boat updated the position of the patera.
After being intercepted, the salvamar proceeded to rescue its 30 occupants and went to the port of Arguineguín, in the Gran Canaria municipality of Mogán. Once on land, they did not need health care.
On the other hand, around 9.30 am, Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas received an alert informing that the crew of a fishing boat needed health care after suffering a heart attack.
The Control Center mobilized Helimer 204 who, at around 11:35 am, proceeded to evacuate the victim, who was conscious, and transferred him to Lanzarote Airport. Once on the ground, he was assisted by personnel from a medicalized ambulance.
