The architect Fernando Menis has already delivered to the Santa Cruz City Council the project for the rehabilitation of the main building of the Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, an intervention that, according to the Councilor for Infrastructure, Dámaso Arteaga, will exceed 11 million euros. This was advanced by the mayor in the appearance requested by United We Can in the Control Commission. As Arteaga detailed, “the architect had a submission deadline and he has met it. At the moment the document is being evaluated by the municipal technicians, since we have to process the authorizations and cross-sectional reports, in this case those corresponding to the Urban Planning Management and the Cabildo Heritage Commission ”.

Arteaga explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS that those 11 million cost exceeds the agreement signed with the Government of the Canary Islands, which is six million euros, therefore, “we trust that with the contribution that the Cabildo can make, along with let us do it, we are going to carry out the whole project ”. It should not be forgotten that this amount is only that of the main building, the projects for the Pérez Minik Theater and the improvement of the adjoining areas would be lacking.

The mayor of Infrastructures offered some brushstrokes of the Menis project, which, according to Arteaga, it has not been necessary to modify to adapt to the implantation of the future Rodin Museum, “the subject of adaptation to new uses, as it was initially, allows the intended uses of the Rodin museum, so the fit of the needs within the reform fits perfectly, although that does not mean that issues will have to be corrected in the future ”. Thus, what is presented by Menis affects what is the main building and the exterior gardens. “There is a technical discussion about the Pérez Minik Theater, to see if it will be demolished or not. You have to consult with Historical Heritage, and see what they tell us, that is why we have left that part on hold ”, explained the mayor, who also recalled that the third phase, the one corresponding to the execution of an underground car park is also on hold, Faced with the impossibility of doing so since it is not allowed by the planning in force.

Menis, in the words of Arteaga, proposes in the constructive part “the conservation and rehabilitation of the façade, proposing to conserve the neo-Gothic values it possesses, returning the building to its original state, and based on previous studies the reinforcement of all the supporting structure, reinforcing the slab elements to support the loads foreseen in the new use, the set of facilities is also renewed, with lighting, air conditioning, and telecommunications.

Santa Cruz has already requested to modify the agreement with the Canarian Government

One of the inconveniences that the Santa Cruz City Council has to face is the justification of the money advanced by the Government of the Canary Islands in the agreement signed for the financing of the Viera y Clavijo. Given the delay “normal in any work of this magnitude”, explains Arteaga that the Executive has already addressed by letter to modify the annuities of the same. Thus, in the aforementioned letter, to which DIARIO DE NOTIOS has had access, it is detailed that 400,000 euros have already been advanced in 2018, and 1.9 million in 2020. In this document it is proposed that the quantities already delivered can be executed up to on December 31, 2023 and certified in the two months following that date. It is also proposed that no amount be advanced in 2021 and 2022, to contribute 1.9 million in 2023 and the same in 2024.

“We trust in the sensitivity of the Executive with this project, because from 2023 there will be no problem to certify money deliveries. We already have the project on track and we trust that the modification will be made as soon as possible, ”says Arteaga.
