The 127 days that the Camping for a Dignified Housing has been on the street are still not enough for the different administrations to which they are addressed to offer some kind of solution to their demands. At the moment, the only official response they have obtained is the eviction order that the Santa Cruz City Council communicated last Tuesday and for which they were given 24 hours to leave the Plaza de la Candelaria, lacking the relevant occupation permit. of the public space. The decision, made by the Public Highway Occupation Management Service, has been appealed, according to the spokesmen of the Camping, in the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, which they have addressed asking to leave without effect the aforementioned order.
Lolo Dorta, spokesman for the families camped out, yesterday called the communication signed by the mayor of Public Services, Guillermo Díaz Guerra, a “threat”. “We have been fighting for 127 days in the street, and, in addition to defending ourselves in court, we advance to the councilor that we are also studying filing a complaint against him and his party, the PP, because we believe that they are making aporophobia, which is nothing else. something that fosters hatred of the poor ”, he stressed. Dorta defended that, despite what the Santa Cruz City Council says, “we are not breaking any law, we have the right to demonstrate, it is a constitutional right, and, for now, the one who is breaking the law is Mr. Guillermo Díaz War, since we have permission from the Sub-delegation ”.
Precisely, what the City Council alleges is that the Government Subdelegation has authorized the demonstration and concentration, but not the occupation of the public thoroughfare, which is thus stated in the letter addressed to the Camping, in which they are indicated that this authorization corresponds to the Consistory. With this argument, the process to proceed with their eviction has begun, the latter action that, as explained by the Corporation, will not be carried out immediately, since the steps of any municipal file will be followed. “They cling to the fact that we are occupying a public road, something we have been doing for 127 days. When we started in the Presidency of the Government, we asked the City Council if it was necessary to have a permit and we were told that no, we did not bother. That seems to have changed when the Camping was moved to Plaza Candelaria ”, explained Dorta.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez called on the Canary Islands Government on Tuesday to meet the demands of the campers and to comply with the purchase of the homes in El Tablero.
