The electrolysis plants are conceived as modular industrial plants in which sodium hypochlorite will be manufactured as the main product, whose dissolution in water is known as bleach or chlorine, although they can also make hydrochloric acid and soda, says Puertos de Tenerife.

This initiative has as of today the approval of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority, which agreed to grant an administrative concession to this effect to Welysis Industries, SL, for an initial term of twenty years.

Puertos de Tenerife reports that this company intends to build electrolysis chemical plants operated remotely from a control center that will also be installed on the port plot.

In a first phase, the electrolysis plants to be built will be mainly destined for the African and European markets, and the provision of the necessary training for their operation will also be included in the service.

In this sense, from the aforementioned remote control center, customers will be supported through a specialized service center that will also serve to provide training and retraining courses to plant operators, as well as R&D projects. I, which will turn it, according to its spokesmen, into a “strategic and nerve center with third countries”

In this way, the note adds, the company intends to offer efficient solutions to remote populations, where access to drinking water is not yet assured, the transport of sodium hypochlorite is complicated and where small-scale electrolysis plants can be installed guaranteeing a product. top quality at competitive costs.

The activity that Welysis Industries SL will carry out is framed among the conditions to authorize its registration in the Tenerife Free Zone, specifically the import and export of materials or services from third countries, that is, those that are outside the customs code of the European Union .

This initiative is expected not only to diversify the productive sector of the Canary Islands but also to generate an important business opportunity in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector.

In a second phase and depending on the growth of the company, it is intended to study industrial processes related to electrolysis plants and establish pilot programs where to develop initiatives such as the use of hydrogen from saline electrolysis plants in vehicles with zero polluting emissions.
