SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Vindication Camp for the Right to Dignified Housing celebrates 122 days in the Plaza de La Candelaria, in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with people who “have nowhere to live” and families with “threat” of eviction in different municipalities of the island, “in the most serious housing crisis that this land has suffered in its history.”
In a statement signed together with the Urban Centro El Perenquén Neighbors Association, they regret that neither the Government of the Canary Islands nor any other administration “has taken any real effective step” in favor of the families of the camping, beyond “motions that are not meet and other toasts to the sun “so no hyay” no reason “to break up the camp.
“It is not to the liking of the people who make up the protest camp to remain on the street for so long, and much less now that the cold begins, but we insist, we are facing the greatest housing crisis that this land has suffered, and for suffering it very directly , and due to responsibility, we cannot abandon “, they detail.
In addition, they point out that the protest conforms to the articles of the Constitution on the right to demonstrate and the right to decent housing and they understand that it does not collide with any other right because “the right to party is not included in the Constitution”, and in the camping is not hindered or impeded the right to work.
Likewise, they indicate that the objective of the camping is to “make the problem visible” and for this the Plaza de la Candelaria is an ideal place to be in the heart of the capital.
Both groups also point out that they have gathered 3,600 signatures of support and call the campaign that has been opened against camping as “regrettable and shameful”, especially by the councilmen of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, “that instead of putting Decidedly on the part of the citizens affected by housing problems, which by the way are many in their municipality, and from a completely legal demonstration and in accordance with the law, they dedicate themselves to making public statements and demonstrations, veiled accusing of preventing parties and limiting the right to work, thus inciting businessmen, citizens and journalists against it. “
Regarding the alleged economic damages to which the businessmen of the Plaza de la Candelaria allude, they indicate that if ‘Plenilunio’ changes square or street, “a greater distribution” of recreational and festive activities will be promoted throughout the city, thus benefiting other businesses in other neighborhoods.
