The Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has proposed in the last fifteen days of October a total of 82 penalties for the improper use of electric scooters and Personal Mobility Vehicles (VPM), of which 68% correspond to inadequate parking in the public road. It should be remembered that in mid-October, the agents began work to intensify control over this type of vehicle and its users in the capital.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, has indicated that it is a situation generated by the companies that provide this service that “is causing inconvenience to citizens, creating obstacles on the sidewalks and threatening the mobility rights of residents of Santa Cruz. Therefore, for a few weeks, the Local Police has been making greater control over this type of infraction ”.
The Councilor for Citizen Security, Evelyn Alonso, thanked the agents for the effort they make on a daily basis to, in addition to complying with the rest of their obligations, “exercise greater control over this malpractice” and has announced that “this type of controls it will continue as long as the misuse of this type of vehicle continues to be a nuisance for the rest of the citizenry ”.
This control has led to the aforementioned 82 disciplinary proceedings and the removal of a total of 60 vehicles of this type from the public thoroughfare. Of the penalties for improper parking, 30 were for prohibited parking on sidewalks and 26, for parking in pedestrian areas. In addition, 9 sanctions were imposed for traveling in pedestrian areas; 10, for going with a passenger; 4, for endangering other users; and 2, for not respecting traffic light preference and pedestrian crossings.
