The air traffic at Tenerife-North-City of La Laguna airport (Los Rodeos) was affected this Tuesday by the dense ash cloud generated by the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on La Palma. At least five flights had to be diverted to Tenerife South and eight were canceled during the afternoon.
Jose Antonio He is one of the people from Tenerife that have been affected by the interruption of air operations. He had planned to fly to the island this Tuesday from the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, but, already on the plane, the pilot informed the passengers that he could not take off at that time.
“We were called to board with all normality, we got to enter and there were people who came to sit on the plane. The pilot came out and said that we had to wait 10 minutes to see if the situation in Los Rodeos would change. Then they told us that the flight was canceled ”, explains this passenger to DIARIO DE AVISOS while traveling by bus to a hotel near Barajas that the company has made available to those affected.
Confusion reigned in the air when they reached the terminal. And is that some passengers could not collect their bags. “They will sleep tonight without them. When we were going to pick them up, they sent us a message saying that the flight was not completely canceled, but then it was canceled, ”says José Antonio, who had to complain to the company so that they would give him his luggage, as did other colleagues from this trip frustrated by the ash of the volcano. Not everyone was so lucky.
Finally, the people who were going to catch the Iberia Express plane to Tenerife will spend the night at the hotel. “They have distributed us on all the flights for tomorrow and even the day after tomorrow; I’ll be back on Wednesday ”, José Antonio concludes.
