SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife’s air connectivity with international markets increases by 12.5 percent for the next winter season compared to the same period in 2019-2020, a figure that translates into an offer of two million seats.
To these are added the more than 900,000 places planned until next March to connect the island with the Peninsula, which register a growth of 17%.
The president of the island council, Pedro Martín, highlights in a note these data as “very positive, by placing the island in a very good position in the face of the tourist reactivation and, therefore, of the economy and employment in Tenerife, after a very complicated period, in which it has had to face unprecedented situations, with zero tourism included, with serious economic and social consequences “.
Martín points out that, “in total, Tenerife expects to exceed 3.6 million air seats for this winter, which places Tenerife as the island that is recovering the most volume of seats in the entire Canary Islands, with an increase of 240,000 if compared with the 2019-2020 season “.
In total, the island concentrates 4 out of 10 seats to fly to the archipelago in the next winter season that has just started.
Another of the positive data is that it is expected to resume operations with all the markets with which it was operated in the winter 2019/2020, also having operations in other markets with which it was not had, such as Ukraine or Latvia.
“The list of countries that will exceed the capacity they had before the pandemic this winter is growing more and more. Among them, stand out the increases in places with the United Kingdom (+ 8.5%); Germany (+11.6 %); Italy (+ 105%) and France (+ 40%) “, says the president.
Pedro Martín also appreciates “the enormous interest shown by international tour operators and airlines in Tenerife, as the team that traveled to the World Travel Market in London has been able to confirm, where the island’s new tourism strategy was presented to its main market. , the British, with which this winter there are planned around 800,000 places, 8.5% more “.
SEARCH FOR NEW PROFILES
“Now we work so that these places are filled and for this it is essential to deepen the search for those new profiles to which we are addressing, people who seek not only a wide range of leisure activities on their vacations, but also a proposal based on in sustainability and digitization, which are key to responding to new demands and in which Tenerfie is already working, through our Biosphere certification and our commitment to attract so-called digital nomads “, he indicates.
The Tenerife delegation at the World Travel Market, headed by the island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro, and by the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, has held more than twenty meetings and encounters with international tour operators and airlines, in order to consolidate the island’s leading position in the international tourism market.
Jet2, Jet2 Holidays, British Airways Holidays, Easyjet Holidays, TUI and Thomas Cook have been some of the main tour operators to whom Tenerife’s new tourism strategy has been presented, which was also exposed to some 200 travel journalists and related media with UK lifestyle and tourism.
