Access to the La Hermita road, which runs parallel to the Santos ravine, in the lower part of the La Salud neighborhood, has been closed to the passage of vehicles and pedestrians have been restricted to the maximum due to the risk of landslides that presents the slope in the section from the existing pedestrian bridge next to the Canarias Futura neighborhood association to the Emmasa company’s wastewater pumping station.
The Public Services technicians verified, on October 13, that there had been new landslides that had clogged the existing mesh, as well as the real risk that the fall of new rocks would end up breaking the existing systems and falling on the road. Given the situation, the area headed by Guillermo Díaz Guerra has declared an emergency in order to hire the company Wara Ingeniería Ambiental to evaluate the slope and decide the measures to be taken.
Yesterday, Díaz Guerra, together with the councilor of the Salud-La Salle district, Carlos Tarife, visited the area to check the status of the slope. As detailed by the mayor of Public Services, “as a result of the fall of some stones, we have made a visit with the municipal technicians in which cracks have been detected in the walls and some unstable rocks, with which, we have hired for the emergency evaluation by geological technicians and climbers of the situation of the slope, which a priori may threaten to fall on some houses “, detailed the mayor.
Díaz Guerra explained that, “in a preventive way, access to vehicles has been limited and the traffic of people has been reduced to the maximum.” “Once we have the evaluation,” he continued, “to be carried out using drones, laser scanners, and a face-to-face visit, we will have to make the action proposal.” Likewise, he pointed out that the options go through the repair of part of the slope or the whole, or tree pruning, mesh solutions or through concrete, “but for that we must wait for the engineering study in this regard.”
For his part, Carlos Tarife indicated that “as a councilor for Health-La Salle we support the emergency intervention of Public Services, first so that there is no personal injury, and secondly so that when the technical work has been done, we are sure that no there is no stone on this hillside that damages the houses ”. Tarife added that “we have been in contact with the president of the neighborhood association. We have given him peace of mind ”.
