SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has criticized the supposed agreement between Rabat with an Israeli company to search for oil and gas in the south of the Islands and has assured that the Government of Spain will act immediately if these works affect the Archipelago.
This has been stated after the Moroccan National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) has closed an agreement with the Israeli company Ratio Petroleum Partnership for the exploration of potential oil and gas pockets in the oceanic block called Dajla Atlantique, with a An area of 109,000 square kilometers that encompasses the waters of Western Sahara and the southern Canary Islands.
The president indicated that he has already spoken with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who has informed him that the Government of Spain is validating that information, knowing the scope of these contracts, and that today he will contact his Moroccan counterpart .
Ángel Víctor Torres assured that he has the “absolute” commitment of the minister that if these contracts affect the Canary Islands “at all”, “there will automatically be a reaction from the Government of Spain.” In any case, he said that we must wait for institutional relations to culminate.
