One year, extendable for another. That is the time that the Santa Cruz City Council has set itself to put out to tender the car park located in Tres de Mayo and whose concession it rescued in 2020, after verifying that its management had been transferred irregularly to El Corte Inglés. Precisely, to avoid the closure of this parking lot until the new tender comes out, the Governing Board yesterday formalized the agreement by which the shopping center will manage the parking for a year.
As stated in the agreement of the Governing Board, “with the proposed proposal it would be allowed, in order to safeguard the general interest of the city, to continue to have a public car park in one of the main commercial areas of the city. with a total offer of 572 seats “, since,” otherwise, it could cause significant traffic problems, especially at times like Christmas, sales, etc., in which commercial campaigns attract a greater number of customers ” .
The agreement, provisionally awarding a different entity, “could have worse consequences, since it would force to assume expenses that would be required for the physical separation of both car parks (the public and the shopping center), and that would allow the differentiated management of both ”. A new concessionaire would have to take care of a strong economic investment with new entrances and the consequent transformation of the commercial use of the basement -1 into the use of parking.
