SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has visited this afternoon on the island of La Palma some of the places affected by the lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the company of the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the counselor Regional Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Alicia Vanoostende.
After visiting the Advanced Command Post, the minister got to know the facilities of the El Paso Cheese Plant, which has been authorized by the Island Council so that almost twenty farms that have been affected by the effects of the volcano can continue its cheese production. Later he has made a tour of damaged areas.
The minister has sent a message of support and solidarity to the inhabitants of the island, where tomorrow he will maintain a work agenda that includes meetings with the agricultural and fishing sectors.
Planas has already held a meeting by videoconference with associations and representatives of the sector to inform them of the aid program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which totals 20.8 million euros, although it is a provisional estimate, since it has not yet a real assessment of the damage is possible.
Tomorrow you will have the opportunity to learn more about the situation of the sector on the island and to convey information about the Government’s measures in the meetings that the President of the Government of the Canary Islands will also attend. The aid of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to farmers, ranchers and fishermen of La Palma will be managed by the Canarian Autonomous Administration.
Luis Planas and Ángel Víctor Torres will attend from Santa Cruz de La Palma to a new session of the Mixed Commission for the Reconstruction, Recovery and Support of La Palma, which will be chaired by videoconference by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
