Both the mayor of Arona, Jose Julian Mena, as the councilor of the Mobility area of the southern City Council, Francisco Marichal, were present at the beginning of the works, which have corresponded to the Roads area of the Cabildo of Tenerife and in which more than 178,000 euros have been invested.
To avoid, or at least minimize, the possibilities that these events occur frequently, the works have also included the inclusion of a drainage system and another botaolas, a protrusion in the upper part of the parapet of a vertical dike that serves to divert the waves towards the sea, in such a way as to mitigate the effects of the force of the sea on the promenade for the future.
The goal is that, after the work is finished, throughout the early morning, the road can be opened to traffic first thing in the morning on Monday. Both Mena and the Councilor for Mobility agreed on the importance “not only of solving a specific problem, such as the one that occurred last August, but that the measures adopted allow the situation to be resolved in the medium term as well, beyond the intention that we have. that the entrance beach can be extended and a promenade is generated that is in an area higher than the current one, so that the road is sheltered from high tide ».
On August 20, a section of the promenade that runs between the towns of El Fraile and Las Galletas collapsed. The cause is found in the action of the sea. The first consequence was for traffic, so a lane to go down to Las Galletas was kept operational, but the exit from that town could only be made through the highway that connects with Las Rosas, the local government reported.
