Latest news on the La Palma volcano
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located at dawn this Friday more than 40 earthquakes to the south of Cumbre Vieja, in La Palma, one of them of magnitude 4.2 and intensity IV, felt by the population at 6:54 a.m. a depth of 38 kilometers.
In general, seismicity remains stable at medium and stable depths, but it is not ruled out that in the coming days the earthquakes will gain in intensity and may reach six.
According to the latest report from the Department of Homeland Security, attention is being paid to the streams in the northwest area that have merged and seem to run in a southwesterly direction, without ruling out variations in their evolution.
On the other hand, the low stream, which is close to the sea, remains a hundred meters from this point.
After the preventive evacuations last Wednesday, the total number of people evicted since the beginning of the emergency stands at around 6,600.
The affected area amounts to 825.23 hectares and according to the Cadastre, the total number of damaged buildings is 1,196.
Air quality is rated as reasonably good and aeronautical conditions are favorable for all airports in the Canary Islands.
Given the weak rains forecast for these days, which will mainly affect the north and northeast of the island, the risk of possible runoff due to the impermeability of the wastes has been warned.
