SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Governing Council of the Canary Islands has approved this Thursday a direct subsidy to the Tejeda City Council for the amount of 253,879.44 euros, destined to prepare the section of the Camino de Santiago between Volcanoes, as it passes through that municipality of Gran Canaria.
The grant is awarded for the purpose of establishing and promoting the conservation, protection, promotion and development of the natural and cultural heritage.
In addition, it is intended to develop natural areas with public tourist interest and revalue this natural resource, promoting the socio-territorial balance of new categories of products, capable of operating throughout the year on the basis of the differentiation and specialization of tourist destinations.
The Canary Islands have the second oldest Camino de Santiago in non-continental Europe and the pilgrimage in the territorial context of the archipelago offers the same plenary indulgences as that of Santiago de Compostela, when passing through the Holy Doors of the Tunte and Gáldar temples.
For this reason, the Government of the Canary Islands promotes this project not only from the historical, cultural or faith perspective, but also as a tourist product in which sustainability, integration with the territory and the generation of a circular economy predominate.
In addition, it has been possible to introduce, for the first time, the Camino de Santiago between Volcanoes in the promotion carried out in the world by Turespaña with images of Tunte and Gáldar projected in the same way as other peninsular roads.
