SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The state trading company Aguas de las Cuencas de España (ACUAES), of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, has begun the works of the ‘System of purification and reuse of wastewater from the West of Tenerife’ whose total planned investment exceeds 27 million euros.
Specifically, work has begun on the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the pumping and impulses of the towns on the west coast and the wastewater treatment and pumping station (ETBAR) in Playa de San Juan.
This action, declared of general interest of the State, will allow obtaining a treatment and purification system that complies with the requirements established in Directive 91/271 / EEC on urban wastewater treatment, achieving a quality of the treated water that allows its reuse. through the Lomo del Balo and the future Las Charquetas reservoirs, increasing water resources for irrigation, while helping to minimize the exploitation of the aquifer.
The work begun consists of the development of environmental prevention measures, as well as the preparation of a native plant nursery for the subsequent restoration, protection and demolition of the unusable elements of the old WWTP and the preparation of the area for the facilities of work, indicates the Ministry of Ecological Transition in a note.
Subsequently, the current irrigation, wastewater and desalinated water pipes will be replaced, which will be affected by the movement of earth necessary to form the platforms on which the different buildings and elements of the WWTP will be located.
The new facility is located in the municipality of Guía de Isora and incorporates the pretreatment of the waters that arrive by gravity from the Guía de Isora and Chío collectors that later join with those on the coast, which are pumped from the ETBAR from Playa San Juan, to jointly undergo biological treatment.
The treatment plant is dimensioned for a population of 109,000 equivalent inhabitants and a maximum treatment flow in the horizon year (2036) of 10,325 cubic meters per day.
NETWORK OF DIFFUSERS
Its biological reactor consists of an MBR process of prolonged oxidation by aeration using blowers and a network of diffusers, using ultrafiltration membranes as a clarification system, seeking the highest quality of the treated water, with a view to its reuse.
The works, which must be completed within 24 months, represent an investment of 11.1 million euros.
In relation to the ETBAR of Playa de San Juan and the pumping and impulses on the coast, with a cost of 4.9 and 8.8 million respectively, work has begun on the removal of the irrigation network, replacement of services and clearing of the affected farms.
It is also planned to undertake the project of collectors of medians – with a cost of 2.2 million – whose works will begin in a few months.
The works are part of the set of actions that ACUAES, in collaboration with the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Consejo Insular de Aguas de Tenerife, is going to develop on the Island of Tenerife in order to improve the sanitation and purification of wastewater from the island, with an investment that exceeds 170 million euros, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER 2014-2020, within the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain (POPE).
