A few days ago, specifically, last Sunday, October 3, the Cymatic team of the RoboThecnic’s Educational Robotics Center, in La Laguna, made up of three young people aged 11, 14 and 16, won the national football championship, in the national final of the World Robot Olympiad-WRO, which was held in Gerona.
In this appointment, the young people and their coach, Alfredo Díaz, faced another team. Both groups had two autonomous robots, a goalkeeper and a player, built with LEGO materials, who chased an infrared transmitting ball, within a field of play, with the aim of scoring more goals than the rival, in a match of two. times of five minutes each.
Kadim, the father of Dani, one of the children of the lagoon team, tells DIARIO DE AVISOS that on Saturday, the minors had two hours to assemble the robots. “Each child assembled a part and then assembled them. After weighing the robot, they saw that they had spent about 50 grams and had to go back, but finally they succeeded. The robots cannot exceed a kilo and have a maximum diameter. They weigh them and put them in urns to control the measurements. They must all be of the same size to compete on equal terms ”.
On Sunday the competition took place and the Canarian team “was always two or three seconds ahead. There were about 15 games in total that the children played. They tied two and won the rest. And in the final they won 1-0. The robot was very well programmed, it had many movements ”, says the father of this young man.
And it is that “they competed with very strong teams”, who had experience in previous editions, who valued the effort and quality of the Canarian team and they let them know.
“The atmosphere was very good and the competition was very healthy. In fact, at the end, children from other teams came to congratulate them ”.
An experience, says Kadim, which has been “incredible” because they did not expect to win and because the children “really enjoyed traveling, working as a team and meeting new people”.
And so Dani, who is so 11 years old, says that he never imagined winning with his teammates, and that he likes robotics and it amuses him a lot because he believes that “the future is headed for that”.
Undoubtedly, an appointment that has shown, once again, that robotics is already here, and that these initiatives must be promoted and promoted for children, such as those of the Cymatic team of the RoboThecnic’s Educational Robotics Center, in La Laguna , who wonder how things work, and who enjoy setting up and programming them.
