“This is great news for the recovery of tourism in Tenerife.” This was assured yesterday by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, about these Air France flights to the Reina Sofía airport. «The fact that a new flag company like Air France begins to fly with the Island, joining it with Paris-Charles De Gaulle, is news that reinforces the effectiveness of the new strategy of the Council, through Turismo de Tenerife, to attract a quality tourist, interested in flying in a comfortable plane with a business cabin “, stressed the island president, to add:” It is a profile of a tourist with average purchasing power. tall who stays in hotels between four and five stars.

Other Spanish airports

Air France already announced in August that it was going to incorporate Tenerife among its destinations and yesterday confirmed that the flights will begin on the first of November. It will operate this winter from eight other Spanish airports, which means three more routes – Seville, the aforementioned Tenerife and Gran Canaria – with respect to the 2019 offer, before the pandemic of the covid-19. On October 31st, the latest generation Airbus A220 aircraft, which has just joined the fleet of the French company, will start operating from Barcelona and Madrid.

The two new routes with Tenerife South of Air France (from Paris, in this winter season) and United Airlines (New York, in summer) will bring 26,100 air seats to the island

The president values this air connection with Paris as “yet another milestone for the Tenerife destination, obtained after various meetings with the company.” “In the last year, France has become a rising source market compared to the destination Tenerife, so we value even more that a company from the Air France embargo returns to the Island after many years.” Martín highlights that other companies such as Air Baltic, Swiss Airlines –this for the first time–, Lufthansa and Aeroflot have decided to connect Tenerife with their home destinations. “It is also very important that Nordic Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) also begins operations in November, with a number of seats never seen before: almost 30,000 during the winter.” The insular president figures in a dozen flag carriers flying to Tenerife. Added to those already mentioned are Aer Lingus, Britisth Airways, Austrian, Tap Portugal or Brussels Airlines. “We will be the leading destination in the Archipelago in terms of connectivity next winter,” emphasized the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Another route after New York

The news comes six days after another important air connection with Tenerife was announced for the recovery of the tourism sector and international air connectivity. Last Thursday, the US airline United Airlines announced a new non-stop route to connect Tenerife with New York next summer. The North American company will link the island of Tenerife with the city of skyscrapers in the United States from June 10 to September 30 of next year.

The new route from Newark Liberty airport to Tenerife South airport will offer 13,400 seats and will be operated by a Boeing 757-200 aircraft with three weekly connections –three outbound flights and as many return flights– direct. The plane will depart from Tenerife South on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, at 12:00 noon, and from Newark at 9:50 p.m. (US time) on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Its capacity is 169 seats.

«The start of operations with Paris in November, as will happen next June with those in New York With United Airlines, they represent steps forward that show us that Tenerife is doing well and this has been transmitted to us by the different economic agents, both tourism and in general, as well as the State Government itself, which will support us in promoting the flight with the United States, “concluded the socialist Pedro Martín.
