The area of nightlife known as the Quadrilateral, in La Laguna, is becoming in the last weekends at the point of massive large bottles, which are causing complaints from neighbors, who ask for more forcefulness against this situation.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, affirmed yesterday that “we are very aware of this problem, which has been increasing in recent weekends and that, I insist, is not an easy solution.”
For this reason, “this weekend I have been in contact with the Government Subdelegate, Javier Plata, to convey to him the need to increase the police presence in the area and have a greater number of troops. We both agree that we must use all possible means to deal with this situation, which is not exclusive to La Laguna, ”he said.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez announced that, “next Thursday, we will hold a new coordination meeting with the Government Sub-delegation, in which we have also requested the presence of the Government of the Canary Islands as well as the Cabildo, through the Metropolitan company of Tenerife, already that we have verified that there is a significant number of young people who come by tram to our municipality, consuming alcohol ”.

“We ask that the tram security agents do preventive work, requisitioning the alcohol consumed in the wagons,” he continued. And we will continue advancing in the closure of public parks in which we have detected that they are used from early afternoon for consumption ”.

“This situation is not going to be solved from one day to the next, but it is necessary to work together between all the administrations,” he stressed.

Likewise, the mayor wanted to “invite many families to make a reflection, since we have verified the presence of many minors in a state of drunkenness, which is a social problem that goes beyond the municipal scope”, detecting minors since 14 years.

Even so, Gutiérrez indicated that “we are very clear that we cannot stigmatize all youth, who have every right to enjoy their leisure; yes, we condemn the attitude of small small groups that take refuge in the crowd to commit acts of vandalism and exercise violence ”.

To the neighborhood complaints in recent weeks, the Spanish Police Confederation in Tenerife joined yesterday, requesting that an “assessment of the current security device be made and, where appropriate, improve it with the employment of sufficient personnel and with the specialization, training and provision of adequate means to this type of facts and circumstances ”.

Neighborhood complaints

In addition, from the neighborhood association of La Verdellada they reiterated yesterday their complaint and concern about these bottles, which are produced “with more and more aggressiveness, lack of control and violence”, overflowing “towards all the neighboring neighborhoods”. Thus, from the association they affirmed that “the neighbors never remember a situation like the current one,” and denounced that “the police force is clearly insufficient.”
Therefore, they indicated that a collection of signatures has begun to demand solutions. In fact, an initiative in this regard has been opened on the Change.org platform, already adding almost 500 signatures.
