The insular vice president and counselor of Roads, Enrique Arriaga (Cs), explains that «It is an emergency work to prevent more debris from falling onto the road, after the continuous episodes of landslides detected in the area have accumulated gravel and large rocks behind the wall that could arrive on the road ”.
«The action consists of the removal of the detached material and the repair and expansion of the retaining wall. The works will be carried out during the daytime and it is necessary to establish specific cuts in traffic that will be signaled, ”announces Arriaga. The insular director of Roads, Tomás Félix García, adds that this action «joins other works that the area also carries out on this access road to the Teno lighthouse, such as the repair and cleaning of the retention meshes installed on the left side of the road. The operators, specialists in vertical work, are removing stones from the meshes and replacing some anchor cables that had deteriorated.
These works to improve the landslide retention system began on September 27 on the island highway TF-445. The area in which the works are carried out is between kilometer points 4,150 and 5,400, which are the most affected by rock falls from high cliffs.
Arriaga has also explained that “it is an urgent action that will allow the installation of new triple twist meshes to restore security on this island road. The current retention system of the slope is compromised due to the frequent landslides that occur in the area, sometimes with large rocks ”. This action will also force to establish “specific cuts to be able to work safely and at times when it is considered that there is a risk of detachment”. These works have an execution period of three months.
