SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has assessed this Thursday that the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) reaches some 37,000 people in the Canary Islands, which represents more than 17,000 families, although he regretted that he should have considered “much earlier” to advance social justice.
In response to a question from the Popular Group in the control session, he recalled that it was approved at a “very difficult time” due to the economic crisis driven by the health pandemic and was a measure contrary to that of the last PP government, based on the cuts, the labor reform and the tax increase and that it was “a martyrdom” for the islands.
The president has recognized that there are people who do not access the IMV because they exceed the salary limits and that poverty has increased due to the health crisis, but the pandemic started with 231,000 people in ERTE and now there are 28,000 people, which are “28,000 misfortunes” but it is a mechanism that makes “people have hope” because they maintain their employment relationship with your company. “With you they would have gone to unemployment,” he snapped at the popular.
The spokesperson for the Popular Group, Australia Navarro, has indicated that the IMV “is an absolute failure” which shows that “with slogans poverty cannot be overcome”, which has grown by 49% during Torres’ term to reach 373,000 people.
He has said that the Government’s social protection system “is a fiasco”, since the IMV leaves 330,000 people unattended and the Canary Islands is the autonomous community with the largest population in severe poverty.
In addition, he has indicated that the processing is an “absolute torture”, to the point that two out of every three applicants “do not even do it” and there are 10,000 files without processing, and among those who get it, “eight out of ten are denied, it is the true reality. “
For this reason, he has asked Torres to “act” and look for resources to cover what the IMV does not reach “or will you be the one who pushes 337,000 euros into the abyss of hopelessness who are living with 300 euros, to me, this would not let me to sleep”.
