A new website brings together the charms of La Laguna and the facilities it offers to digital nomads so that they can telecommute from the municipality while enjoying its natural, heritage, cultural and gastronomic wealth.
The City Council has just put this portal into operation with the idea that it will serve as a showcase to attract those professionals with remote jobs thanks to the use of new technologies; the first step in the strategy promoted by the Innovation area to promote the arrival of these quality visitors.
The councilor responsible for the project, Cristina Ledesma, explained that the launch of this platform, “a pioneer in Tenerife”, is part of the first phase of the ‘La Laguna Digital Nomads Paradise’ campaign, focused on the launch of the website and its organic positioning to, then, initiate the first contacts with people who are already carrying out their work telematically in the Islands.
The mayor indicated that, “between this month and December, the goal is to promote awareness of the municipality through this new portal, thanks to a marketing plan that will favor its prominent positioning on the internet and the establishment of conversations through the networks with digital nomads who are already in the Canary Islands ”.
At the same time, “we are also talking with managers of different coworking spaces and accommodation so that they strengthen their services based on the needs of these travelers, with the aim that they have all the facilities so that they decide to spend their long stays in La Laguna ”, he added.
Cristina Ledesma recalled that Aguere “meets the appropriate conditions so that these professionals can telework from the municipality -with optimal fiber available in 85% of the territory, different coworking points and with good connectivity that facilitates mobility-, at the same time as they enjoy all its wealth ”.
In this first phase, from www.aytolalaguna.es/nomadas-digitales/es/ the attractions of three specific areas of La Laguna (the coastal environment of Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo, the Historic Center and Anaga) are disseminated for “providing a diverse offer related to the sea, mountains, culture and leisure”, together to other useful information for the visitor, “such as accommodation and tourist offices available in those places, local festivals and existing work spaces.”
“With this, we intend to capture the interest of digital nomads to spend their long stays here given the positive impact it will generate on the local economy, since they stand out for being professionals with high purchasing power who tend to be in the same place for even six months ”, highlighted Cristina Ledesma.
The forecast – he added – is to continue developing this recruitment strategy over the next few months, in line with the initiative carried out by the Cabildo de Tenerife, until reaching international markets due to the “opportunity” derived from the growth of teleworking to root of the pandemic and the “pole of attraction” that the Islands represent.
The digital nomad is characterized by being a person between 25 and 35 years old who works online with technology or for technology, such as the copywriter, content manager, social media manager and community manager. After the start of the health crisis caused by Covid-19, there has been an increase in remote employment, with an average stay in the same place that usually varies between 15 days and six months.
