The Cho Feriantes de Honor are delivered today at the inauguration of the XXXVI Regional Handicraft Fair of Pinolere, which this year, due to the global pandemic of covid-19, will not be held at the beginning of September as usual but for this purpose of week. The exhibition will take place under strict control of capacity and various protocols and security measures, among the artisans and the public that attends. So you can visit the ethnographic site with complete peace of mind and safety, but with a previously purchased ticket through the tickety.es platform.
The highest distinction awarded by the Pinolere Association, the Cho Feriantes de Honor, seek to recognize the work, collaboration and selfless support of regional personalities who, during the 36 years of existence, have been giving their recognition, collaboration and solidarity with Pinolere’s multiple social, cultural and educational projects aimed at dignifying Canarian popular culture.
The award for the business modality went to the Pedro Miranda Mesa Samcor Presa Canario Breeder, in La Florida, in the municipality of La Orotava. It is a municipal Canarian company dedicated to the breeding of dogs, especially the Presa Canario breed. It has been running since October 16, 2006, although the objective remains the same as in its beginnings: to improve this breed and make its horses known, already with its own stamp, to as many people as possible. Samcor is located in a privileged place in the north of Tenerife, surrounded by nature.
In the institutional modality, the award goes to two groups: the cultural association Friends of the Bath of the Goats in the Sea and the Pinolere Neighbors Association. In 2014 the cultural association Amigos del Baño de las Cabras en el Mar was established in Puerto de la Cruz, whose purpose is to defend, protect and disseminate the traditions and popular culture of the Canary Islands, especially the tradition known as the goats bath in the sea. From that date to the present, she has been linked to the organization of the aforementioned tradition, participating annually in it every June 24. For its part, the Pinolere Neighbors Association was founded in 1977. Its first president was Luciano Morales Luis, giving way to several directives and promoting citizen participation, claiming the needs of the neighborhood and being a direct link with the City Council.
In the individual modality, the Pinolere de La Orotava Cultural Association awards Antonio M. Jiménez Medina, a graduate in Geography and History from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Ulpgc). He has been a research and teacher training fellow in the Department of Historical Sciences of the Ulpgc, as well as the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Intercampus EAL-96 Program.
The other winner is the archaeologist and anthropologist from Gran Canaria, Francisco Modesto Mireles Betancor, who graduated in History from the UNED and began his apprenticeship in archeology at the hands of his teacher Rosa Schlueter first and then in the Cueva Pintada de Gáldar with Celso. Martín de Guzmán and Jorge Onrrubia Pintado.
