SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The extraordinary board of directors of the public company Visocan approved this Thursday the purchase on the island of La Palma of the first 18 homes with which it will begin to serve those families who have been left homeless due to the eruption of the volcano of Cumbre Vieja on September 19.

The first lot of 13 homes has been acquired in the municipality of Tazacorte, on Pedro José Viña Díaz street, for a total amount of 768,970 euros. The other promotion of five properties is located on Calle Fuencaliente in Ciudad Real, in the municipality of Fuencaliente, and the public entity Visocan has acquired them for 355,788 euros.

These 18 homes, now publicly owned, will be delivered in the coming days to the families who have been left homeless by the volcano eruption, thus fulfilling the commitment made by the counselor Sebastián Franquis to deliver the first homes in the month of October.

“Faced with the daily difficulties caused by this eruption on La Palma, the Government continues to work to urgently attend to all those affected, and within our powers we are focused on attending to the housing emergency that affects many families on the island,” he said. the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing, Sebastián Franquis.

“With the purchase that we have made today through Visocan, we continue that path that is none other than to facilitate that each family that has lost their home has a temporary home with a view to rebuilding their life project in the not-so-future future. As public administrations, especially the Canarian Government, it is our obligation to contribute all the resources and all the means that are necessary to this end, “he added.

To this first batch of homes, with a total investment of 1,123,758 million euros, will be added in the coming days a second purchase of another batch of 46 homes in the municipality of Tazacorte in the approximate period of one month, and in month and a half, another 29 in Los Llanos de Aridane. The objective of the Ministry, therefore, is to acquire these 93 homes in the short term that will allow them to face at first the housing emergency that many evicted palm families are going through, temporarily handing them over one of these houses.

The medium-term objective is to buy another 150 more homes until the end of the year has a lot of 267 houses acquired by the Autonomous Community and allocate them to those affected by the eruption who have been left homeless.

In this sense, the Ministry yesterday signed a protocol of care for the social emergency with which a single registry of affected people is created, and the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI) is empowered to organize the necessary work team to care for families who have lost their homes to the volcanic wash.

The team, which already has the first troops on La Palma, is made up of a coordinator and 14 social workers who have been hired by the Ministry exclusively for this purpose. These social workers are already working on the ground to personally interview those affected both in the new Office of Attention to Citizens Affected by the volcano that has been opened in the Casa Massieu de Los Llanos, as well as in the different accommodations in which these families are temporarily living.
