The Consistory values the payment of burials to families in vulnerable situations

The Popular Party claims the authorship of this proposal aimed at including the funeral services in the aid of social emergency, for those families of the municipality that do not have resources. Defended by councilor Yaiza Fraga (PP), the initiative aims to “take into account the circumstances of families that do not have resources, with the aim of reducing their anguish when in an adverse economic situation they find it necessary to resort to this type of services ».

Fraga claimed the approval of this proposal recalling “the economic consequences that the coronavirus pandemic has brought with it.” He stressed that such a circumstance “has changed the profile of people who go to municipal Social Services, worsening both the economic situation of some families, for which it is impossible to assume expenses, such as funeral services.”

The councilor of the PP said that “when a family has to face the drama of the death of one of its members, it is the duty of the administration to contribute to reducing the uncertainty and anxiety that they may not be able to cope with, from the point of view of economic view, to bury or incinerate his family member. With this premise, Fraga defended the approach that, “in these cases, the funeral services are borne by the City Council itself, as one more line of social emergency aid.”

Arona is one of the municipalities “with the highest cemetery rates.” A statement that supports the comparison made in the case of a niche niche of remains. He assured that in Arona it has a price of 818.48 euros for 75 years, while in Adeje the same service costs 601 euros for 65 years and in Los Realejos, a niche of remains with a perpetual nature (99 years) costs 180 euros.

The municipal spokesperson of the PP, Águeda Fumero, ratified the commitment of his political formation “for the reduction of taxes and fees, since the money must be in the pocket of the families, especially in times of economic crisis.” From his perspective, in Arona there is more reason because “our City Council has an initial treasury balance of 94 million euros.”
