The group of CC-PNC of the Cabildo de Tenerife has warned that 216.5 million euros of the investments planned in the 2021 budget remain to be executed, which is “a brake on job creation and economic recovery.”

The spokesman for the nationalist formation, Carlos Alonso, noted that of the 265 million euros foreseen in the 2021 budget, as of August 31 “only 48.8 had been executed, which represents 18.3%, a very low figure that weighs on the island economy.”

Carlos Alonso affirmed that the low execution “is the result of bad political leadership.” “Last year they stopped investing more than 100 million euros and this year they have even worse figures. The lack of political management is also being transferred to civil servants, as many are leaving for other administrations. In Roads, four highway engineers left and in Environment, another four technicians will leave shortly, to name two examples, “he said.

Alonso denounced the low execution in areas such as Tourism, Roads and Social Action. “They are powerful areas that should boost the economy and, however, we see that they have a very low level in terms of investments. In Tourism, Planning and Historical Heritage, only 10% have been executed, that is, of the 25.6 million euros, only 2.5 have been invested “,

The nationalist spokesman attributes this “to the lack of a counselor”, because “in April José Gregorio Martín Plata resigned and in the new restructuring they have not put any of them. The PSOE has not given the importance it has to our main economic engine” .

Similarly, the CC-PNC spokesperson pointed out that the infrastructures of the Social Action area “have been idle for two years.” “Of the 32.7 million euros for this year, only 5.8 million (17.7%) have been executed in eight months and evidence of the lack of management, while in the area of Roads, Mobility, Innovation and Culture something similar happens. Of the 106 million euros planned for 2021, they had only executed 19.9 as of August 31, “he said.

“Companies need the Cabildo to activate their projects in order to generate employment. The government group seems to be more attentive to other political issues than to manage the 2021 budget and we fear that, as happened last year, it will stop executing many millions of euros, which is detrimental to all citizens, “concluded Carlos Alonso.
