The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced this Sunday that the Regional Executive will mobilize around 40 million euros to attend the volcanic emergency on La Palma.
Ángel Víctor Torres has traveled again this Sunday to La Palma to monitor the effects caused by the eruption of the volcano together with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
After meeting with the Pevolca Steering Committee, they have appeared before the media together with the president of the Cabildo, Mariano Hernández Zapata, and then they have paid a visit to the people relocated at the Hotel Princess, in Fuencaliente.
The president has detailed that the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge and Employment has arranged about 10 million euros in aid for companies, training and employment; to which are added another 6 million from the Ministry of Social Rights and the provision of another 10 million from the Ministry of Agriculture for damages that may occur in the agricultural sector.
Likewise, the Canarian Government has contributed more than one million euros to cover the assistance of the people who are staying at the Princess Hotel in Fuencaliente, in addition to the 10 million that it contributes directly to the purchase of homes.
In this sense, he advanced that this week there will be a meeting of the Visocan Board of Directors for the acquisition of the first lot of homes, about a score, so that between now and December the maximum number of homes possible can be had. Torres pointed out that from this first lot those people who have lost their only home will benefit.
“ALL EFFORTS”.
Ángel Víctor Torres stressed that public administrations are making “all efforts” to respond to this emergency, the end of which “does not seem to be close” due to the amount of millions of cubic meters of lava that the volcano is still expelling, more than double what the Teneguía expelled in a quarter of the time.
On the other hand, it has valued the “responsible” response of the palm trees to this emergency, which are being “tremendously responsible” in the fulfillment of the orders, which has allowed that there has been no need to regret personal injury. In addition, he reported that yesterday and today they have been allowed to return to collect belongings in areas that are free of danger.
He also pointed out that the Citizen Attention Office that has been opened in Los Llanos is active and has been working this weekend. It has received people who request psychological treatment and information in this regard, and it will continue with a human team in which all administrations are collaborating to advise, collect documentation and arbitrate mechanisms with social and psychological workers and teams from all areas of the Government of the Canary Islands. .
AID FOR IRRIGATION.
Regarding the irrigation problems that the agricultural sector is suffering, Ángel Víctor Torres reported that the Canarian Executive has allocated 4 million euros to the acquisition of two portable desalination plants that will arrive tomorrow. In the event that the water quality was not sufficient, the hotel’s water in Puerto Naos and other desalination plants would be used. Likewise, the Government of Spain has arranged a tanker with more than 30,000 m3 of capacity that will set sail from the Peninsula in the coming days. It is also considered that the Kamov can bring water from the reservoirs that are outside the affected area to supply water for irrigation.
Along with this, this week there will be meetings to address the problem of road infrastructures by the Minister of Public Works, Sebastián Franquis, to arbitrate emergency mechanisms to be able to connect with Los Llanos de Aridane.
