SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, wanted to convey a message of hope and tranquility not only to the palm tree society, but also abroad, and has affirmed that the island “maintains its usual rhythm” despite the volcanic eruption and that security for residents and tourists “is absolute.”
This was stated at a press conference after attending the meeting of the Pevolca Steering Committee, which was also attended by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres. He then visited those staying at the Fuencaliente hotel.
In his speech, the president of the Cabildo stressed that in more than 90% of the island, people’s lives “continue normally” and ports and airports are operating without incident. For this reason, he said that the best way to help La Palma is to “treat us normally, visit us, help diversify the economy, that the hotels have activity, that the restaurants and cafes work, that the taxi drivers, farmers, merchants, all, we can reactivate the economy and give a boost to our island. “
Mariano Hernández Zapata also highlighted that there is still no personal injury, “which is undoubtedly the best news we can give in this situation,” and the device deployed on the island currently reaches more than a thousand troops. He added that all the people who have been evacuated are in “decent” accommodation, so the housing emergency is “overcome”, and this aspect is being guaranteed to people who have some type of dependency.
He stressed that the fact that no personal injuries have been recorded is due “to the collaboration of all the palm trees and palm trees, which are showing extraordinary, supportive, voluntary and disciplined behavior with all precautionary measures and recommendations.”
He confessed that many times it is difficult to combine an attitude “so exemplary” with the “despair” that many families are experiencing, including his own, since Mariano Hernández Zapata lives in the Aridane Valley, as well as his relatives, friends and acquaintances.
Given this, the president of the Cabildo admitted that there is no other option but to “continue fighting and move on” because the consequences of this natural phenomenon “we have to overcome as did our ancestors, who for centuries have lived with volcanic activity, which has shaped our orography and our reality “.
Likewise, he said he felt represented in hundreds of families who are living a “complicated, new situation that we had never faced or imagined, but that is not why we are going to give up and we are showing, all the palmists, that we are capable of moving forward, of guaranteeing maximum support to regain normalcy “.
“PATIENCE AND TRANQUILITY”
Mariano Hernández Zapata has taken the opportunity to ask the families for “patience and tranquility”. He recalled that many neighborhoods had to be confined in a preventive manner and said he was aware of the “uneasiness” that this generates, but stressed that this is done as a precautionary measure to guarantee security.
At this point, he wanted to send a special message to the almost 6,000 people who are outside their homes: “I want to tell you that we are never going to leave you alone. You have the commitment of all the governments involved in this crisis because, together, together, as we have shown, we are going to work towards recovery and to return to normalcy as soon as possible. “
Finally, he wanted to convey that he was “enormously proud” for the unity with which all palm trees and palm trees have faced this eruption. “I have not the slightest doubt that we are going to move forward and that together we are going to be stronger than the volcano,” he concluded.
